THE MORNING EDIT
PERIMENOPAUSE · SLEEP · DAILY RITUALS
Waking at 3 AM in perimenopause? It impacts the entire day and not just sleep.
When broken nights spill into busy mornings, another bedtime fix can feel like the only answer. Here’s a more grounded look at sleep, stress and the routines you can actually revisit.

THE MORNING
A full day ahead. An empty tank.
It’s not only the night you lose.
You fall asleep, then wake in the early hours. The house is quiet, but your mind is already running through tomorrow. By breakfast, work, family and the usual decisions haven’t gone anywhere. Your energy has.
If that feels familiar, you’re not failing at bedtime. The NHS lists difficulty sleeping among perimenopause and menopause symptoms, and notes that tiredness can leave you feeling more irritable and stressed during the day
A difficult night deserves more than a promise that one product will fix it.

Why “just relax” misses the point.
Sleep disruption during this transition can have more than one contributor. Night sweats can wake you; anxiety and everyday pressures may make it harder to settle again. Poor sleep can then affect mood and concentration.
Make room for a proper conversation.
If symptoms are affecting your life, talk to your GP about perimenopause, sleep and treatment options. A daily ritual is not a replacement for medical care.

Three things worth revisiting before adding anything new.
01
Notice your caffeine response.
Coffee isn’t right for everyone with disrupted sleep. Consider your timing and intake; reducing or avoiding caffeine may be more appropriate if it affects your sleep.
02
Keep a simple symptom note.
Note when you wake, whether you feel hot, and how the next day feels. Bring those observations to a GP appointment rather than guessing at a single cause.
03
Choose a ritual you can keep.
Make a little space in the morning, away from the first rush of messages. If coffee already suits you, the cup you enjoy can be part of that pause—not another complicated regime.

THE INGREDIENT CONVERSATION
KSM-66® ashwagandha: studied for stress and sleep.
When stress and restless nights overlap, KSM-66® ashwagandha is an ingredient worth understanding. In a 2012 randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, Chandrasekhar and colleagues enrolled adults with chronic stress. Participants received 300 mg of KSM-66 root extract for 60 days, or placebo. The extract group showed greater improvements in stress measures, including a combined anxiety-and-insomnia questionnaire score

What Chandrasekhar’s study found
The average combined anxiety-and-insomnia score fell 69.7% from baseline in the KSM-66 group, compared with 11.6% in the placebo group after 60 days.
A separate 2019 sleep trial by Langade and colleagues studied 60 adults with insomnia, using the same daily amount of KSM-66 in capsules for 10 weeks. Compared with placebo, participants receiving the extract fell asleep faster and showed better sleep quality and sleep efficiency. These findings suggest KSM-66 may help improve sleep.
